FAQ: NetHASP Setup

Here are step-by-step instructions for setting up the NetHASP License Manager on Windows XP with TCP/IP.

  1. Install the Meyer Software on the client computer(s) using the Meyer CD.

  2. Run lmsetup.exe on the computer that will become your license server. This program may be found in the nethasp\license mangers\win32 folder on the Meyer CD.

    1. On the “Welcome” screen, select “Next.”
    2. On the “Installation Type” screen, select “Service” and then “Next.”
    3. On the “Select Program Manager Group” screen, select “Next.”
    4. On the “Driver Install” screen, select “No.”
    5. On the “Start License Manager” screen, select “No,” then “Finish.”
    6. On the “Install” dialog, select “Cancel” to NOT restart Windows.
  3. Install the HASP device driver on the computer that will become your license server.

    1. Download the HASP device driver setup file, HASP4_driver_setup.zip, from the Meyer website.
    2. Unzip HDD32.exe from HASP4_driver_setup.zip.
    3. Run HDD32.exe. This will walk you through the device driver installation.
  4. Restart the NetHASP License Manager service.

    1. From the Start Menu, open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services.
    2. Select HASP Loader.
    3. Select “Restart” (or “Start” if the service is not running).
  5. Plug the NetHASP key into the license server.

  6. Configure the nethasp.ini file on each of the client computer(s).

    1. Make a copy of nethasp\nethasp ini samples\udp with address\nethasp.ini on the Meyer CD:

;; This NetHASP.INI file is configured to use UDP with a specific address.

      [NH_COMMON]

      NH_TCPIP = Enabled;           ; Use the TCP/IP protocol

      [NH_TCPIP]

NH_SERVER_ADDR = xx.xx.xx.xx; ; IP addresses of all the NetHASP
; License Managers you want to search.
                                    ; Unlimited addresses and multiple
                                    ; lines are possible.

NH_TCPIP_METHOD = UDP; ; Send a TCP packet or UDP packet
                                    ; Default: UDP

      NH_USE_BROADCAST = Disabled;  ; Use TCP/IP Broadcast mechanism.
                                    ; Default: Enabled

    2. Replace “xx.xx.xx.xx” with the the IP address or host name of your license server.

    3. Copy the edited nethasp.ini over the default nethasp.ini on the client computer(s). This file is typically installed at C:\Program Files\Meyer & Associates, Inc\Meyer 2008 (en)\nethasp.ini. Replace (en) with (ru) for the Russian software.

  7. Firewalls. The NetHASP License Manager listens on UDP port 475. If there is a firewall running on either the license server or on the clients, please ensure that this port is not blocked.

    Example:

    On the license server:

    1. From the Start Menu, open Control Panel | Windows Firewall.
    2. If “Off” is selected, there is no need to edit your firewall settings. Otherwise, continue.
    3. Make sure “Don’t allow exceptions” is NOT checked.
    4. Open the “Exceptions” page and make sure “HASP LM 475 UDP” is on the list. If not, you can add it by doing the following:
      1. Select “Add Port...”
      2. Enter “HASP LM 475 UDP” for the name.
      3. Enter “475” for the port number.
      4. Select “UDP.”
      5. Select “OK.”
