FAQ: NetHASP Setup

Here are step-by-step instructions for setting up the HASP License Manager on Windows (2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7) with TCP/IP.

  1. Plug the NetHASP key into the computer that will become your license server.

  2. Run lmsetup.exe on your license server. This program may be found in the contents\nethasp\license mangers\win32 folder on the Meyer 2010 CD.

    1. On the “Welcome” screen, select “Next.”
    2. On the “End User License Agreement” screen, select “I accept the license agreement” and then “Install.”
    3. On the “Installation Type” screen, select “Service” and then “Next.”
    4. On the “Choose Destination Location” screen, select “Next.”
    5. On the “Select Program Manager Group” screen, select “Next.”
    6. If the “Device Driver Installation” screen appears, select “Next.”
    7. On the “HASP License Manager” screen, select “Yes,” then “Finish.”
  3. Install the Meyer Software on the client computer(s) using the Meyer 2010 CD.

  4. Configure the nethasp.ini file on each of the client computer(s). It will look like the following:

    [NH_COMMON]
    ;; This NetHASP.INI file is configured to TCPIP.
    ;; Please enter the address of the machine which the NetHASP key is connected to;

    NH_TCPIP = Enabled; 			; Use the TCP/IP protocol

    [NH_TCPIP]

    NH_SERVER_ADDR = 127.0.0.1; ; IP addresses of all the NetHASP
    				        ; License Managers you want to search.
    				        ; Unlimited addresses and multiple
    			        	; lines are possible.
    			        	;
    			        	; Possible address format examples:
    		        		; IP address:      192.114.176.65
    		        		; Local Hostname:  ftp.aladdin.co.il

    NH_TCPIP_METHOD = UDP ; Send a TCP packet or UDP packet
    			        	; Default:  UDP

    				        ; Note: HASP API v8.x supports UDP,
    		        		; it doesn't support TCP.

    NH_USE_BROADCAST = Disabled 		; Use TCP/IP Broadcast mechanism.
    			        	; Default:  Enabled

    1. Replace “127.0.0.1” with the the IP address or host name of your license server.

    2. Copy the edited nethasp.ini over the default nethasp.ini on the client computer(s). This file is installed under the machine application data folder:

      • Windows Vista and later: C:\ProgramData\Meyer & Associates, Inc\Meyer 2010 (en)\nethasp.ini
      • Windows XP and earlier: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Meyer & Associates, Inc\Meyer 2010 (en)\nethasp.ini

      Replace (en) with (ru) for the Russian software.

      Note: The machine application data folder is a Windows hidden folder. You may have to enable the Windows show hidden folders option to see it.

  5. Firewalls. The NetHASP License Manager listens on UDP port 475. If there is a firewall running on either the license server or on the clients, please ensure that this port is not blocked.

    Example:

    On the license server:

    1. From the Start Menu, open Control Panel | Windows Firewall.
    2. If “Off” is selected, there is no need to edit your firewall settings. Otherwise, continue.
    3. Make sure “Don’t allow exceptions” is NOT checked.
    4. Open the “Exceptions” page and make sure “HASP LM 475 UDP” is on the list. If not, you can add it by doing the following:
      1. Select “Add Port...”
      2. Enter “HASP LM 475 UDP” for the name.
      3. Enter “475” for the port number.
      4. Select “UDP.”
      5. Select “OK.”
