Meyer 2009 Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs During Installation And Runtime

Installation

On what Windows platforms will the new Meyer 2009 software run?

Meyer 2009 runs on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP SP1, or Windows 2000 SP3.

How do I know if I have the Administrative Privileges needed to install the license key driver?

Check with your IT department to determine the proper procedure for installing software. Most users in corporate environments do not have Administrative Privileges.

What happens if the installer cannot complete or if I cancel the installation before it is completed?

The installer will roll back or uninstall all Meyer 2009 files installed to that point, leaving your system in its previous state.

What version of the software do I have?

Go to the About Box (on the Help menu); it will display the version number and date for the build you are currently running. For Meyer 2008 and later, this information is also displayed on the main screen of each application.

Where can I find sample files for use with Meyer 2009?

Meyer 2009 comes with an extensive collection of sample files, which can be installed to My Documents at any time using the Tools | Install Sample Files... command. (This command activates automatically the first time any Meyer 2009 application is run.)

Upgrades

Do I need a previous version of the Meyer software to install this new version (e.g., do I need Meyer 2008 to install Meyer 2009)?

No; Meyer 2009 will install even on a clean system.

When I install Meyer 2009 will it delete my old version of the software?

No. Meyer 2009 will not change any of the old versions files or programs.

When I install Meyer 2009 will it delete my old databases and data files?

No. This new version (or any old version) will not overwrite, delete or move any old files. All files will remain as they were before installation. Furthermore, if you are upgrading from Meyer 2001 or later, the new version will find the databases presently on your machine and install upgraded copies for use with Meyer 2009.

Can I run Meyer 2008 and Meyer 2009 together?

Yes. However, you should know that Meyer 2008 and earlier cannot read data files produced by the Meyer 2009 version. Also, only programs from the same release set (MView, MACQ, MinFrac, MFrac, MPwri, MWell, and MFrac-Lite) can exchange data. That is, MView 5.50 communicates with MFrac 5.50 and MinFrac 5.50; it will not communicate with any previous versions of MFrac or MinFrac.

When I open any of the Meyer 2009 programs my Most Recently Used file list (MRU list) is empty. Is this normal?

Yes; the Meyer 2009 MRU list is initially blank.

License Key

I installed the software successfully, but when I try running it I get a message stating that I am not authorized to run this release. What is the most likely source of this message?

You must update your license key before the new release will run. To update your license key, run MKey and open the company key file distributed with the software. Also, if two or more Meyer license keys are attached to a parallel port, only the one closest to the computer (electrically) will be recognized.

What can you tell me about using the MKey utility?

MKey is a utility for updating your license key.

The easiest way to update your key is to obtain an MKey data file from Meyer & Associates, Inc. Contact our Technical Support if you need one. To use the data file, run the MKey utility. Select Open from the File menu and select the key file from Meyer & Associates, Inc. Your key will be automatically updated.

Be sure to always use the version of MKey that came with your data disk. In other words, always install all the software before running MKey to update your key. Previous versions of MKey may not work properly with newer key files.

For information on updating your key without a data file, please contact our Technical Support staff.

Can I install the license key on a network server?

Yes, this is fully supported.

  • Contact Meyer & Associates, Inc. to obtain a network license key (red key) that is set to a specific number of users.
  • Install the NetHASP software, included on the Meyer 2009 release CD. Instructions for installing this software may be found in the nethasp folder on the CD, or at FAQ: NetHASP Setup.

3D Plots

Where can I get a VRML browser to view the 3D plots in MFrac?

There are several free VRML browsers available online:

(These links are up-to-date as of Wednesday, 2009-10-28.)

Tips for a Successful Installation:

  1. When installing one of the free VRML browsers, be sure to disable any antivirus software on your computer. Antivirus software can interfere with the installation process.
  2. If the installation website makes you choose whether to run the installer from its current location or save to disk, you should choose save to disk and then run the installer by hand.
  3. Dont forget to enable your antivirus software when the installation is complete!

Documentation & Training

Can you install the Meyer 2009 Users Guide on my computer?

Yes. In this release we have installed a Manuals folder that includes the Meyer 2009 Users Guide, along with some supplemental material, in PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader) format. If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat reader installed, you can download the latest version from Adobes website.

Do you have any additional detailed technical information on hydraulic fracturing theory as implemented in Meyer 2009?

Yes. In the Manuals folder on the CD, we have included:

  1. The Meyer 2009 Users Guide (Meyer User's Guide.pdf).
  2. A list of abstracts for the majority of the technical papers authored or coauthored by members of Meyer & Associates, Inc. on hydraulic fracturing (abstracts.pdf).

These files, as well as several mini-tutorials, are also available from our website.

Do you offer training courses on the use of MFrac?

Yes we do—see our training page, or you can contact us directly.
