Meyer 2012 Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs During Installation And Runtime

Installation

What operating systems does Meyer 2012 support?

Meyer 2012 is Windows® software, which runs on 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows 7 and Windows Vista, and on 32-bit versions of Windows XP SP3 and Windows Server 2003.

How do I know if I have the Administrative Privileges needed to install the license key driver?

Check with your IT department to determine the proper procedure for installing software. Most users in corporate environments do not have Administrative Privileges.

What happens if the installer cannot complete or if I cancel the installation before it is completed?

The installer will roll back or uninstall all Meyer 2012 files installed to that point, leaving your system in its previous state. (This is standard behavior for Windows® Installer MSI packages.)

What version of the software do I have?

Help | About will show you the softwares version number and build date. Meyer 2008 and later also show this information on the main screen of every application.

Where can I find sample files for use with Meyer 2012?

Meyer 2012 comes with an extensive collection of sample files, which can be installed to My Documents at any time by using the Tools | Install Sample Files... command. (This command activates automatically the first time any Meyer 2012 application is run.)

Upgrades

Do I need a previous version of the Meyer Software to install this new version (e.g., do I need Meyer 2010 to install Meyer 2012)?

Meyer 2012 will install even on a clean system.

When I install Meyer 2012 will it delete my old version of the software?

Meyer 2012 will not change any of the old versions files or programs.

When I install Meyer 2012 will it delete my old databases and data files?

Neither Meyer 2012, nor any release of the Meyer Software, will ever overwrite, delete or move your old files. All files will remain as they were before the installation.

If you are upgrading from Meyer 2001 or later, Meyer 2012 will find the databases presently on your machine and install upgraded copies to a new location, to ensure that its changes do not inadvertently affect another release.

Can I run Meyer 2010 and Meyer 2012 together?

All releases of the Meyer Software can be installed side-by-side and will not interfere with each other.

Meyer 2012 is compatible with all file formats from previous releases; however, previous releases may not be able to read files produced in Meyer 2012. In particular, this release includes file format changes which render its .mfrac, .mview, etc. files incompatible with previous releases.

Replay/Real-Time communications are limited to programs from matching releases of the Meyer Software (e.g., all Meyer 2010 programs can communicate; all Meyer 2012 programs can communicate). This is to allow side-by-side operation of multiple releases as described above.

When I open any of the Meyer 2012 programs my Most Recently Used file list (MRU list) is empty. Is this normal?

Yes; the Meyer 2012 MRU list is initially blank.

License Key

I installed the software successfully, but when I try running it I get a message stating that I am not authorized to run this release. What is the most likely cause of this message?

You must update your license key before the new release will run. To update your license key, run MKey and open the company key file distributed with the software. (Important: if two or more Meyer license keys are attached to a computer, the software will only recognize one of them.)

What can you tell me about using the MKey utility?

MKey is a utility for updating your license key.

The easiest way to update your license key is to obtain an MKey license key file from Meyer & Associates, Inc. Use the File | Open command to load this file into MKey 2012. This will update your license key.

Be sure to use the version of MKey that matches your key file. Versions of the MKey utility from previous releases (e.g., Meyer 2010) may not be able to read key files for Meyer 2012.

Can I install the license key on a network server?

Yes, this is fully supported.

  • Contact Meyer & Associates, Inc. to obtain a network license key (red key) that is set to a specific number of users.

  • Install the NetHASP software, which is included on the Meyer 2012 release CD and/or available on our web site. Instructions for installing this software may be found in the nethasp folder on the CD, or at FAQ: NetHASP Setup.

3D Plots

Where can I get a VRML browser to view the 3D plots in MFrac?

There are several free VRML browsers available online. We recommend Cortona3D Viewer from Parallel Graphics.

(These links are up-to-date as of Monday, 2011-10-10.)

Tips for a Successful Installation:

  1. When installing one of the free VRML browsers, be sure to disable any antivirus software on your computer. Antivirus software can interfere with the installation process.

  2. If the installation web site makes you choose whether to run the installer from its current location or save to disk, choose save to disk and then run the installer by hand.

  3. Important: Enable your antivirus software when the installation is complete.

Documentation & Training

Where can I find the Meyer 2012 Users Guide?

This release includes a Manuals folder containing the Meyer 2012 Users Guide and supplemental materials. These files require a PDF viewer, which is not included with the Meyer Software. Adobe Reader is a popular free PDF viewer.

Do you have any additional detailed technical information on hydraulic fracturing theory as implemented in Meyer 2012?

Yes. In the Manuals folder on the CD, we have included:

  1. The Meyer 2012 Users Guide (Meyer User's Guide.pdf), which includes numerous technical appendices detailing the mathematical foundations of the Meyer Software.

  2. A list of abstracts for the majority of the technical papers authored or coauthored by members of Meyer & Associates, Inc. on hydraulic fracturing (abstracts.pdf).

These files, as well as several mini-tutorials, are also available on our web site.

Do you offer training courses on the use of the Meyer Software?

Yes we do—see our training page, or you can contact us directly.
